End of Year Digital Leader Event

18 07 2017

On Friday we held our final Digital Leader Event of the year at Hopwood.

The morning started with a fantastic workshop run by Patterncraft, Code Club and CAS Manchester.

We learned a little about the history of textiles, where they used pattern cards to tell the machines which patterns to produce, a similar instruction to when we are writing algorithms and coding.

We used 8 x 8 pattern cards to design our own blocks for Minecraft. We fed our designs into a card reader, which was connected to a Raspberry Pi, and then our blocks appeared in Minecraft. We also discovered that we could make a simple animation by joining multiple cards together. We also used the pattern cards to write a binary code to send longer messages in Python. You can see more of what we got up to by watching the animoto below.

After we completed the workshops and had a break we moved on to our end of year presentations. Each school presented to the other Digital Leaders to share what they had completed during the year in their own schools.

Finally we were presented with our own individual certificates.

Thank you for all of your hard work over the last 12 months Digital Leaders.

We hope you all have a fantastic summer and wish all Year 6 Digital Leaders moving on to high school, the very best of luck for the future.
